I was seven years old. I remember VE Day because of LIGHT. Every night of my childhood the blackout curtains were put up, complete claustrophobic darkness. To go out and see street lights, houses lit up was amazing. To see bonfires sparkling in the evening light, unforgettable, be part of a huge boisterous noisy party, a wonderful feeling. To look up at the moon and starry skies, not to hear the German planes drone as they flew over at night to bomb Clydeside, so peaceful… unforgettable.
