Carlisle Passion Play
Saturday 13th April
11am and 2pm
Outside the Town Hall
Everyone is invited to the Carlisle Passion Play: a first and unique opportunity for our City of Carlisle. It will be performed on stage, outdoors, in front of the Old Town Hall, the Tourist Information Centre. The play will last about 1 hour 15 minutes and is suitable for all ages. Seating is free.
The script was specially written for the people of Carlisle by John Davies, Classic Theatre Cumbria’s Artistic Director and actor who is also directing the Passion Play. The project is the brainchild of the Rev'd Isaac Lawrence of Scotby and Cotehill who was born in Pakistan. The production is dedicated to the memory of Nigel Holmes, Narrator of the Play, well-known BBC Radio broadcaster and preacher/leader in Wetheral Anglican Church. Others from Wetheral are involved in he crowds scenes, costume department and your local vicar, Graeme Skinner, appears as the High Priest Caiaphas (who plots to make sure Jesus is ‘removed’).
The Passion Play was such a powerful way in which the story of Christ’s trial, death and resurrection can be told which will hopefully move people to ask the simple question, 'Why Jesus?'
A summary of the event is on the Carlisle Diocesn website.
